What happened
On May 20, 2026 MAP Protocol's Butter Bridge suffered a critical exploit enabling attackers to mint 1 quadrillion MAPO tokens via a collision in the bridge's retry message verification using keccak256(abi.encodePacked). The attacker triggered unauthorized minting on Ethereum and BSC, extracting approximately 52.2 ETH (~$110,000) in value before the MAPO token crashed 96%.
In review: sources disagree on the loss.
