What happened
On June 5, 2022, Wintermute lost 20 million Optimism governance tokens when an Ethereum L1 multisig address was provided for L2 deposit but had not been pre-deployed on Optimism. An attacker deployed the Gnosis Safe contract and took control of the address before Wintermute could recover the tokens.
