What happened
On May 31, 2024, DMM Bitcoin lost 48 billion yen ($305M) in bitcoin when North Korean Lazarus Group attackers compromised an employee, intercepted legitimate transactions, and drained the hot wallet. The exchange ultimately shut down and transferred to SBI VC Trade.
The FBI release describes the theft, not a recovery. DefiLlama's returned figure here should be read as losses covered, not funds recovered.
